We have ordained men and women from all walks of life. Ordained ministers include Doctors, Lawyers, School Teachers, New Age practitioners, Massage Therapists, Acupuncturists, .Psychotherapists, Social Workers, Christian Ministers, Priests, and College Professors. Yes, anyone who wants to can become an ordained Buddhist Monk.

American Buddhist Church ordained ministers are legal in all states in the United States as well as being legal in other countries throughout the world. Being an ordained Buddhist Minister means that you feel a calling to share or administer to others the teachings of the Buddha. Many individuals who are already ministers are interested in becoming multi-religious ministers so that they may serve individuals of other faiths as well.

Those people who do not want to become ordained Buddhist monks can join the American Buddhist Church as general members. General members of the American Buddhist Church are able to learn about all of the teachings of the Buddha. They do not have to be trapped in one school or point of view of what Buddhism is. These individuals and families have the opportunity to make up their own minds which form of Buddhism they will concentrate on. They are also able to change their mind at any time n the future without guilt or condemnation.

In the past, Buddhist cults have run rampant in the world. Cultures, countries and Buddhist sects have created boundaries that encouraged Buddhists to confine themselves to one or two Buddhist groups or traditions for their entire lives. Often this has had the effect of having their adherents waste their entire lives pursuing the wrong type of Buddhism for their needs.

Buddhism is the fastest growing religion in the United States. Hundreds of thousands of individuals of all religious faiths have shown a deep desire to learn more about the Buddha’s teachings. There is a shortage of Buddhist Monks able to share the Buddha’s teachings in a practical and understandable way to those who want to learn. Many Buddhist groups are mere religious cults stuck in their own mire or religious interpretation that are inadequate and destructive to the free flow of religious thinking and practice. Buddhism is much more than mere psycho babble or New Age positive thinking. Buddhism goes deeper than a band aid or illusory change.

Buddhism is a way of life, not just another method of attending retreats, lectures, initiations or getting blessings once in a while. Celebrity hysteria is a far cry from being able to access a qualified Buddhist monk on a daily basis. The ordination we provide you with is a world ordination valid in all forms of Buddhism. We promote open Buddhism, not restrictive Buddhism or egocentric Buddhism. Egocentric Buddhists often try to claim their particular type of Buddhism is the best, the most true, the most authentic, or the right form of Buddhism. They  imprison their members within one type of Buddhism in which they do not study or associate with other Buddhists or people from other religions.

Individuals should not belong to a religion because of their culture, race, family, or language. No child should be forced to belong to a religion because their parents or family belongs to a religion. Children can be encouraged to attend religious activities with their parents but should be advised that they are free to choose their own religion when they grow up. Forcing someone to belong to a religion  is wrong at any age. The American Buddhist Church encourages Buddhist to investigate, explore and learn about all forms of Buddhism as well as other religions. We think that the more one knows about religions and their origins, the better off they will be. It is good to be religious but it is bad to be forced to be religious. The freedom to change religions as you grow is also essential. Multi-religious families are great and will grow in the 21st Century.

As a Buddhist Monk you can perform legal weddings, funerals, provide counseling and guidance to individuals in their time of need. As an ordained minister you have all the rights of any clergy man or woman in the United States.
